Greta Freist is one of the most important female Austrian artists from the 20th century with a very large artistic variety.

Already as a young artist she convinced the public with the high quality of her works and took part in many exhibitions of the artist’s association Hagenbund. Also in her adoptive home France she received artistic recognition and exhibited her paintings. Greta Freist understood herself as an apolitical artist, nevertheless she reflected current events in her paintings. Her oeuvre is diverse and at the same time very distinctive. The artistic development contains different characteristics from Magic Realism, Surrealism and abstract art.
